Matemwe Bungalows has
14 en-suite bungalows built from local materials,
each with a personal touch. All the rooms, as well
as our restaurant are directly overlooking the Indian
Ocean. You can enjoy the comings and goings of the
local ngalawa fishing fleet from the comfort of your
private veranda or from the restaurant.
The eight self-contained rooms and six suites have
lighting and hot water both powered by the sun. All
rooms have private verandas where you can laze in
your own hammocks. Although mosquitos are rare in
Matemwe, all rooms are equiped with a large mosquito
net. The suites have large king-size beds especially
suited for honeymooners. An extra single bed makes
them also suitable for small families.
Seafood is the speciality
of the house, with all produce bought daily from the
local markets. Lunch is a buffet offering a delicious
mix of African and European flavours. Dinner offers
a choice of main courses between meat, fish and vegetarian.
The barbeque of meat and fish is particularly popular.
The "catch of the day" might actually be
yours!
Early morning, tea
and/or coffee will be served at your veranda. In the
evening, the full moon rising out of the sea is a
wonderful romantic experience you're not likely to
forget.
The new open-air bar under the palm trees on the sand
is a peaceful retreat.
For those who need to
keep in contact with the world outside, they do offer
internet and telephone/fax facilities in the main
building. Television still didn't make it into Paradise.
